How it works

How to use the website screenshot tool

Enter a website to capture it on a desktop and a phone, including the full length of the page. Download the captures as PNG or JPEG, or drop them into a device mockup for a proposal or pitch deck.

  1. 1

    Paste the link

Enter the address of the website you want to capture.

  2. 2

    Wait for the captures

Google loads the page on a desktop and a phone. It usually takes 10 to 30 seconds.

  3. 3

    Pick a view

Switch between Desktop, Mobile and Device mockup, each with a visible-screen and full-page capture.

  4. 4

    Download

Save any capture as PNG or JPEG, or download the mockup as a PNG.

Good to know

What this tool captures

Google PageSpeed Insights loads the page twice, as a desktop computer and as a phone, and the tool keeps the screenshots. For each device you get:

  • Visible screen: what a visitor sees before scrolling, the first impression.
  • Full page: the whole page in one tall image, for reviewing a layout top to bottom.

Download any capture as a PNG for crisp edges, or a JPEG for a smaller email attachment.

Be honest about resolution

Google's test uses a phone screen 412 pixels wide and a desktop 1350 pixels wide, per Lighthouse's device settings. That suits a slide, a proposal PDF or an email, not a billboard.

Full-page captures have two limits:

  • They stop at 16,383 pixels tall.
  • Pages that animate content in as you scroll can show blank patches.

Making a device mockup

The Device mockup view puts the desktop capture in a laptop frame and the mobile capture in a phone frame, on one 2400 pixel wide image. It is built in your browser, so nothing extra is uploaded. Pick a transparent or light grey background and download a PNG.

Mockups help at three points in a sale:

  • Before the pitch, to show the owner their current site on a phone, especially when it is clearly broken.
  • In the proposal, to show the new design on every screen size.
  • After launch, for your portfolio and case studies.

Ways web designers use screenshots

  • Prospecting evidence: a phone capture with a tiny phone number says more than a score. Back it up with the SEO checker or the mobile-friendly test.
  • Before and after: capture the old site, then the new one the same way.
  • Competitor comparisons: put the three strongest local competitors on one slide.
  • Cleaner captures: expect cookie banners, paste the final address after redirects, and run it again if something looks off.
